thinking takes confidence

as I’ve work through anxiety, I’ve observed something interesting: you can’t reason very well without confidence. in order to come to a conclusion, you need to accept a set of premises. however, if you’re so unsure or skeptical that you can’t accept your premises, you won’t ever believe your conclusion. if you’re so worried about being wrong, or if you’re so unconfident in your beliefs, it impairs your ability to be believe in your reasoning.

something helpful for me is framing my actions or beliefs as a leap of faith. it might wrong, but in order to keep moving, in order to make progress, you must take a leap of faith, and fully commit to your beliefs or actions.

reasoning looks something like following premises to some conclusion, and then you can further combine those conclusions to gain other insights. now, you might be wrong at some point along the way, but that’s okay. you’ll be able to re-adjust. but, if you can’t even draw a single conclusion, you won’t get anywhere.

leaps of faith is how i get anywhere
